About Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery

Mini gastric bypass which is a type of gastric bypass is a keyhole laparoscopic procedure performed at Dr tulip’s obesity and diabetes surgery centre Bangalore. It is done through tiny incision on the tummy through which thin laparoscopic instruments are placed.

Linear endoscopic staplers are used to perform this MGB. A long stomach tube is created over a gastric calibration tube placed alongside the lesser curvature of the stomach. At first horizontal cartridges is fired at the crows feet followed by linear vertical cartridges alongside the calibration tube. This is continued till we reach 1 cm away from angle of HIS which is at the junction between stomach and oesophagus.

A loop of jejunum ( second part of small intestine) is then measured 180- 200 cm from the duodenojejunal flexure and an opening is made in it.  A similar opening is made in the stomach tube just created. A linear stapler is then used to join both the stomach tube and the jejunal loop. The opening is then closed with sutures. Thus the food enters the stomach tube and goes directly into the jejunum bypassing the remaining part of the excluded stomach.

Due to this good weight loss is expected over months and also resolution of comorbidities like diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension.
